Friday Finds 5-23-25 part two

I finally got around to taking pictures of my finds from Friday. I spent about $50 for all

I picked up 3 Basic Fun Misfittens plushies, a milk glass ruffled hobnail dish, ceramic and wood butterfly plaque, talavera turtle trinket box, Jellycat hedgehog, a bag that had 3 mini ceramic hats and woven ornaments (along with some other items I’m re-donating) two Loot Crate Sanrio mugs, a tiny onyx turtle, a wood bobble head turtle, a ceramic comical turtle, a vintage votive candle holder, Otagiri owl figurine, metal poodle earring holder, 208 skeins of DMC embroidery floss and a Laurel Burch tin from 1989.

I spent some time today taking listing photos of most everything and getting it listed on various sites. I kept out a couple of items (the ceramic hats and the talavera turtle) that I plan to put in my booth. I also listed a couple of items from my death pile. I haven’t listed the embroidery thread yet as I’m not sure if I want to sell as one big lot or break it up into several smaller lots.

I am going to create a “my listings” page and include pictures and links to the items I have for sale. Hopefully I’ll get that done in the next couple of days.

Friday finds for 5-23-25

Fridays are my thrifting days. This stems from when I was working and my husband was running our store. I worked Monday through Thursday. so Friday was “my” day; the day I ran errands, did grocery shopping, and did whatever I wanted; which was generally thrifting. Now that I’m retired and our store is only open Wed. through Sat., I can go thrifting whenever I want, but I still usually only go locally on Fridays.

We live in a semi-rural area, and there’s not a lot of thrift stores here, so I generally hit the same stores each week. We have Goodwill, ARC, and several independent/regional stores. Of course, there’s also an abundance of yard sales and estate sales, plus a couple of swap meets.

Most of the items I pick up are for resell, however I do buy for personal use as well.

I haven’t taken photos yet of everything I picked up yesterday, but here’s one thing I was really excited about. I have really good luck selling Douglas and Jellycat brand stuffed animals. I was looking through the toy bags at GW and spied a hedgehog. Most of the bagged stuffies are TY but occasionally I find other brands. As I examined the bag closer, I saw that the hedgehog had a Jellycat tush tag, so into my cart the baggie went. After I had checked out and loaded my purchases into my Jeep, I grabbed the bag with the Jellycat and took a photo to send to my husband. When I got the hedgehog out of the bag, I discovered that the hangtag was still intact! First Jellycat I’ve had with the hangtag.

This was my favorite find yesterday. I picked up several other items as well. I’ll take photos and post them later.

Welcome to Desert Thrift & Vintage

Hello and welcome! My name is Beth. I have been a lifelong flea market/thrift shop/auction junkie, thanks to my parents. I spend a lot of my free time exploring flea markets and thrift shops, much to the chagrin of my husband! If I find something I like, and the price is right, I buy it. Some things I buy for my enjoyment, but mostly I buy for resale. I recently discovered boxes and boxes of items I’ve had in storage for who knows how long, so I decided I should start offering them up to others who will enjoy them and give them a good home. I’ve been negligent in listing items for sale, and my house is starting to look like a hoarder house. I’m slowly working through my death piles, listing vintage and collectible items on eBay, Mercari, and District (Niknax, Vintage Antique Marketplace, and Mainly Made). I have an Etsy store and a Poshmark closet but I don’t list much on those sites at the moment. I also sell books on Pango Books and I have a booth at a local mall and a small section in the store that I own (66 Trains).

I retired from my full-time job with the school district in May 2024. My husband and I own a small business, 66 Trains, in Kingman, AZ. We specialize in HO and N Scale model trains. We don’t have any employees, so when we’re open, we’re usually both there. The store is open 4 days a week, so I have the other 3 days to concentrate on reselling. So far, I haven’t gotten into a routine, but that’s one of my goals for the remainder of 2025.

My intention with this site is to highlight some of my favorite finds, experiences and adventures in thrifting. I hope you enjoy this blog!
